Stanley issued a recall on 2.6 million of its popular steel cups, citing concerns about loose tops that have led to dozens of burn injuries, officials said Thursday.

This action revolves around "all Stanley Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel travel mugs sold in the United States" between June of 2016 through this month, according to a statement by the Consumer Protection Safety Commission.

These cups were often sold through Amazon and at Walmart, Dick's sporting Goods and Target, the agency said.

The recall covers 12- and 16-ounce Switchback models and 12-, 16- and 20-ounce Trigger Action cups, which were all made in China.

"At Stanley 1913, we are committed to constant improvement and are focused on creating quality products that are built for life," according to a statement by the Seattle-based company.

The company has received 91 reports, 16 in the United States, of the targeted mugs' "lids detaching during use, resulting in 38 burn injuries worldwide, including two burn injuries in the U.S., with 11 consumers worldwide requiring medical attention," according to the Consumer Protection Safety Commission said.

Stanley urged customers to reach out to the company and arrange for replacement tops to be sent to them.

Stanley cups have become a wildly popular, go-to hydration tool of millions of Americans seeking to have water or another beverage close at hand at all times.
