Vance to appear on Joe Rogan's podcast

Sen. JD Vance, the Republican vice presidential nominee, will tape an interview with Joe Rogan on Wednesday, days after former President Donald Trump sat down with the popular podcaster, according to a spokesperson for the Republican vice presidential nominee.

Vance, who is expected to hold a campaign event in Pennsylvania later Wednesday, will meet with Rogan at his podcast studio in Austin, Texas. 

CNN was first to report the senator’s scheduled appearance. 

Though this will be his first appearance on Rogan’s show, Vance has appeared on dozens of podcasts since joining the Republican presidential ticket. Last week, the senator sat for two separate podcast tapings — Theo Von and Tim Dillon — for a combined nearly four hours of content.

Trump’s three-hour-long appearance last week spanned a wide range of topics, including the war in Ukraine, Trump’s health and whether or not there is life on Mars.  

The taping also gave venue, however, to the former president’s widely disproven claims of a “stolen” 2020 election. 

Rogan has not made an endorsement in the 2024 election but his political history is mixed. He supported Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., during the 2020 Democratic primary and has said positive things about both Trump and Harris. In August, he also said he was a "fan" of then-independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., but did not endorse his White House bid. "I’m not the guy to get political information from," he said at the time.

The interview marked another iteration of the campaign’s effort to reach new swaths of voters through non-traditional media like podcasts and other venues on social media, like TikTok. The Trump interview episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” has already garnered over 37.5 million views on YouTube alone in less than a week. It's also part of the campaign's efforts to reach out to young male voters, who are a core part of Rogan's fan base.

Vice President Kamala Harris, for her part, has also made several appearances on non-traditional outlets, most recently taping an appearance on Brené Brown’s podcast and, perhaps most notably, an interview on the popular “Call Her Daddy” podcast with host Alex Cooper in early October.

In an interview with MSNBC host Chris Hayes last week, Harris campaign spokesperson Ian Sams said that while the Democratic nominee “is happy to go anywhere and any place to talk to a broad segment of the country,” her campaign schedule would not allow for an interview with Rogan.

“We talked with Rogan and his team about the podcast, unfortunately, it isn’t going to work out right now because of the scheduling of this period of the campaign,” Sams said. 

In a post on X Monday, however, Rogan said an interview with Harris is still on the table but the podcaster and campaign have yet to agree on how to logistically execute the sit-down. 

“My sincere wish is to just have a nice conversation and get to know her as a human being. I really hope we can make it happen,” Rogan said. 

The Harris campaign did not immediately respond to Rogan’s post.
