The Princess Royal attended a performance by the world's oldest riding academy on October 18, as the academy toured the UK for the first time in almost a decade.

The attendance comes just months after Princess Anne was admitted to hospital with a minor head injury and concussion thought to be caused by a horse-related incident.

At the event held at OVO Arena Wembley, in London, Anne was treated to routines set to classical Viennese music by eight riders and up to 26 horses from the Spanish Riding School.

Watching from the royal box, White Lipizzaner horses performed choreographies of All The Steps And Movements Of The High School, On The Long Rein and School Quadrille.

Once, during a visit back in 1969, the Princess Royal rode the Lipizzaner horses alongside her mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The academy is set to perform at Wembley again on October 19 and 20 before heading to Aberdeen's P&J Live for three shows on October 25, 26 and 27, marking its first time performing in Scotland.

Princess Anne is fond of horses and competed for Great Britain in the equestrian three-day event at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games in Canada.

Unfortunately, the Princess spent five nights in hospital and suffered concussion and mild head injuries after reportedly being struck by a horse while out walking on her Gatcombe Park estate in June.

At the time, Buckingham Palace released a statement: "The Princess Royal has sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening."

The Princess missed several engagements after the incident, but later in the summer, jetted to Paris to support athletes in the 2024 Olympics.

Host of the show, Nicki Chapman, told the Daily Mail: "Hosting the opening night of the prestigious Spanish Riding School tour, with The Princess Royal in attendance, was an absolute honour."

They added: "It's been eight years since the Lipizzaner horses and their incredibly talented riders last visited the UK, and sharing the magic with both the Princess Royal and the British public made the evening all the more unforgettable."

On its website, the Spanish Riding School in Vienna states it is the only institution in the world which has "practiced for more than 450 years".

It states the famous "Ballet of the White Stallions" will be performing in Scotland for the very first time in its 459-year history and will make its debut in Aberdeen on October 25.
